Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill has pledged her support to Kevin Sinfield as he undertakes his ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge in Sheffield to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Ennis-Hill, a resident of Sheffield, will run alongside Sinfield on Thursday during the fourth leg of his week-long ultra marathon challenge.
Sinfield, who began his latest endurance feat on Monday, aims to complete a marathon every day for seven consecutive days. This marks Sinfield’s sixth consecutive year of organizing challenges to support MND charities, having already raised over £10 million. The funds have contributed to the establishment of a pioneering center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the UK.
The inspiration behind Sinfield’s fundraising efforts stems from his former teammate, Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND. Sinfield’s relentless dedication has garnered international recognition, with Ennis-Hill adding her influential voice to support his cause, enhancing awareness about MND.
As a decorated athlete with an Olympic heptathlon gold in 2012 and three world championship titles, Ennis-Hill transitioned into a successful media career post-retirement. She actively supports various charities, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield’s overarching goal remains finding a cure for MND, emphasizing the ongoing need for advocacy. Recent news of England World Cup winner Lewis Moody’s MND diagnosis serves as a stark reminder of the urgency to continue the fight against the disease. Moody, in response, plans to host a fundraising dinner in April and organize a charity bike ride in 2026.
Following the Sheffield leg of his challenge, Sinfield will proceed to Cumbria, Scotland, and culminate his journey in Leeds on Sunday. For more details on the initiative, visit https://www.therhinos.co.uk/the-club/sinfield-together-2025.
