“Driving Test Fiasco: Cancelation Over Wet Seat Leaves Dad Waiting Until April”

A man with three children traveled a long distance for his driving test, only to have it canceled due to a wet seat, forcing him to wait until April for a new appointment. Jacob Caroll, 27, had struggled to secure a test nearby and ended up booking one in Scarborough, which was a 300-mile journey from his home in Chichester, West Sussex.

Despite having his car professionally cleaned before the test, a few raindrops fell on the passenger seat as his wife’s grandad exited the vehicle, causing the examiner to refuse to proceed due to the seat being slightly damp. Despite offering a blanket to cover the seat, the examiner insisted on canceling the test.

Jacob expressed frustration over the situation, highlighting that the cancellation meant he would have to wait until April for a new test appointment, just before his theory test expiration. The incident at the Scarborough Driving Test Centre left him feeling anxious about attempting another test, with his family also affected by the ordeal.

Jacob’s mother-in-law, Vicky Bagshaw, shared her disbelief at the situation, emphasizing the impact on the family, especially considering Jacob’s importance in helping with daily responsibilities. The DVSA spokesperson stated that they cannot comment on individual cases but encouraged any learner driver who feels mistreated to report it promptly for investigation.
