A shocking incident unfolded as two dogs were cruelly dragged behind a car, prompting concerned witnesses to alert the authorities. The dogs, a German Shepherd named Marzipan and a pit bull named Nougat, were tethered to the back of a red Volkswagen Passat and struggled to keep pace as the vehicle moved along the road. Onlookers expressed outrage at the sight, with one bystander shouting in disbelief at the inhumane treatment of the animals.
Following the distressing ordeal, Nougat managed to free itself, and the driver then proceeded to load both dogs back into the car before fleeing the scene. Prompted by witnesses, the New York Police Department (NYPD) took action after identifying the driver as Dan Bujor, 68, who was reportedly behind the wheel during the incident in Long Island. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that Bujor faced charges of animal cruelty for his actions.
Katz commended the individuals who reported the incident and the NYPD for swiftly apprehending Bujor and rescuing the animals, who are now receiving medical care under the supervision of the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The dogs, thankfully alive, are currently in the care of the ASPCA in Manhattan for evaluation and treatment.
Bujor, a resident of Long Island City, was formally charged with multiple offenses related to animal cruelty, including overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, as well as driving without a license. If convicted, Bujor could face up to a year in jail. The ASPCA emphasized the severity of the incident and the ongoing issue of animal abuse in New York City, highlighting the importance of providing care and support to vulnerable animals in such situations.
The ASPCA expressed gratitude to their partners and authorities for their rapid response and assistance in addressing this case, emphasizing the collective effort needed to combat animal cruelty in the city.
