A power outage led to a mass evacuation on the Disneyland Monorail, with approximately 60 passengers having to disembark near the Space Mountain ride. First responders from the Anaheim police utilized ladders to safely assist the stranded individuals, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
An Anaheim Fire Department fire engine positioned beneath the monorail’s track extended its ladder to aid in the passengers’ descent. Disneyland Resorts spokesperson mentioned that the monorail’s power failure affected two trains, prompting the evacuation of all riders by 7 pm that evening. A visitor stuck on the ride stated that the power loss occurred around 3:30 pm.
The Disneyland Monorail, a 2.5-mile elevated track above the park, operates at 10-minute intervals, offering a scenic 13-minute round-trip journey past iconic park landmarks. According to the Disneyland website, the monorail, America’s first of its kind, seamlessly blends classic 1959 styling with modern technologies, emitting no direct exhaust or pollutants due to its 600-volt DC power source.
Originally conceived as an attraction, the monorail transitioned into a functional transportation system by 1961, shuttling guests between Disneyland and the adjacent Disneyland Hotel. Following multiple upgrades, the current fleet of train cars began serving visitors between 2008 and 2009.
In a similar incident, a malfunction occurred in November 2025 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, involving Monorail Silver near the Grand Floridian Resort. Fire crews swiftly responded to an electrical issue, extinguishing a small blaze that caused temporary disruption, forcing guests to seek alternative transportation options such as buses, boats, and ferries.
