A man has tragically passed away after sustaining gunshot injuries, while a woman is currently hospitalized following a shooting incident that occurred in a park in the UK.
According to the Metropolitan Police, law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the situation in Clissold Park, Stoke Newington, North London, shortly after 7 pm. Paramedics provided immediate care to a man and a woman, both in their 40s, at the scene before transporting them to the hospital. Regrettably, the male victim was pronounced dead, while the condition of the woman remains undisclosed.
In a statement released by the Metropolitan Police, it was stated that officers were alerted to the shooting at Clissold Park at 19:06 hrs on Wednesday, 17 September. The woman in her 40s received medical attention from the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance before being admitted to the hospital for further treatment.
Additionally, a man in his 40s also received medical assistance for gunshot wounds but, despite efforts from paramedics, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Authorities are currently working to identify his next of kin.
Law enforcement officials disclosed that a firearm, believed to be linked to the incident, was found at the park and safely secured by authorities. Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter, overseeing policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, mentioned that the individuals involved in the shooting were acquainted with each other, and the incident is being treated as an isolated event.
Richter expressed, “We recognize the gravity of this incident for those directly affected, as well as the witnesses in the park and the local community. Our investigation is still in its early stages, but we understand that the man and woman had prior connections. Presently, we are treating this as an isolated occurrence with no broader threat to public safety.”
He further stated, “Our officers are diligently working to uncover the complete circumstances surrounding the incident and will continue to provide assistance to those impacted. A designated crime scene is under investigation with heightened police presence.”
