“Christmas Chocolate Price Shock: Budget-Friendly Alternatives Revealed”

As the holiday season approaches, many of us look forward to indulging in a tin of chocolates either for sharing with loved ones or for personal enjoyment. However, if you are planning to purchase one, it might be wise to budget for it.

Traditionally, one would not expect to spend more than five pounds on a tin of festive chocolates. Yet, during a recent visit to my local supermarket, I was taken aback by the price tags on Cadbury Roses and Heroes tins. I had intended to pick up a tin for myself to enjoy while watching a Christmas movie, but was shocked to find both 700g tins priced at £16.50.

While there is a slight discount available for Nectar cardholders, bringing the price down to £10, it still remains relatively high.

Fortunately, there are more budget-friendly options for chocolate lovers at Sainsbury’s. The Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Mixed Chunks Tin (60g) is priced at £9.59, or £6.50 with a Nectar card. Additionally, a 750g tin of Quality Street can be purchased for £13, or £8.50 with a Nectar card.

For those looking for even more affordable choices, tubs of Celebrations, Heroes, and Quality Street ranging from 500g to 550g are available for just £6 each.

Shoppers seeking the best deals may find better prices at Tesco, where tubs of Celebrations and Quality Street (500g to 550g) are currently priced at £3.95 with a Clubcard, or £4.50 without one. Furthermore, the £16.50/£10 Heroes tub at Sainsbury’s is only £7.50 with a Clubcard at Tesco, compared to its normal price of £15.

Recent analysis has revealed the supermarkets offering the most affordable Christmas chocolate tubs. Asda currently sells standard tubs of Heroes, Roses, and Celebrations for under £5, while Morrisons offers them at £7 (or £5.50 with a Morrisons More Card).

Tesco continues to be a budget-friendly option with Celebrations and Quality Street tubs priced at £3.95 with a Clubcard, and Roses and Heroes at £7 (or £5.25 with a Clubcard). Aldi and Lidl also have tubs priced below £5.

It is worth noting that Marks and Spencer and Waitrose do not stock traditional tubs on their websites. However, they do offer smaller pouch-sized packets and alternative festive chocolates ranging from approximately £4 to £10.
