“Calling All Adventurous Duos: Manage Coffee Shop on Ireland’s Great Blasket Island”

An enchanting uninhabited island is in search of two adventurous individuals to manage a coffee shop during the spring and summer seasons. The stunning Great Blasket Island, located off the coast of Dunquin near Dingle in Ireland, is looking for a duo to oversee the café and the accommodation for island guests.

The caretakers will have duties that include overseeing three vacation cottages, handling cleaning and maintenance tasks, welcoming visitors, and serving tea and coffee while ensuring the daily operations run smoothly.

Ideal for those desiring a remote lifestyle, the wildlife sanctuary of Great Blasket Island has no permanent residents but offers plenty of activities to keep the caretakers occupied.

Applicants are required to be hardworking, reliable, and personable with excellent people skills. The job demands a high level of dedication as the season can become extremely busy, keeping the caretakers on their feet for most of the day.

Successful candidates are expected to arrive on the island by the final week of March, with the season running from April 1 to mid-October, weather permitting. Days off for the caretakers are determined by weather conditions, potentially affecting sailings and workload intensity.

In return for their work, caretakers will receive wages, food, and accommodations but should note that alcohol and toiletries are not included in daily provisions. Accommodations will be provided above the café with access to kitchen facilities, and applicants should be willing to perform general maintenance tasks during inclement weather or days off.

Designated as a ‘Special Area of Conservation’, Great Blasket Island spans over 1,100 acres and has been uninhabited since 1953. Known for its diverse wildlife, visitors may witness dolphins, basking sharks, seals, whales, and a variety of bird species including puffins, terns, and cormorants.
