Donald Trump and his supporters spent several days distorting the tragic incident involving the Minneapolis shooting victim, portraying her as a “domestic terrorist.” However, recent footage has cast doubt on this narrative.
Mother of three, Renee Nicole Good, had just dropped off her six-year-old son at school before encountering a group of ICE agents. She was fatally shot three times and collided with a parked vehicle on Wednesday. Following the tragic event, Trump’s allies launched an offensive, claiming that Good had “weaponized her vehicle.” JD Vance even labeled her death as a “tragedy of her own making,” echoing a troubling trend within Trump’s circle.
Despite the White House’s attempts to defend the ICE agent involved in the shooting, his own bodycam footage revealed a different perspective. The video, released by online platform Alpha News on Friday, showed the agent circling Good’s vehicle while recording with his phone, capturing her face and license plate.
In the footage, Good can be seen calmly telling the officer, “That’s fine, dude. I’m not mad at you.” She then moved her car to allow other vehicles to pass as the immigration officers continued to interrogate her.
The video highlighted the contrast between Good’s composed final words to the officer and the aggressive behavior of the ICE agents, who demanded that she exit her vehicle. Subsequently, the bodycam footage showed Good turning her steering wheel to the right, away from the ICE agent and not towards him. The agent reacted with a surprised “whoa” before firing three shots, leading to the tragic outcome.
Following the shooting, the agent derogatorily referred to the woman he had just shot as a “f***ing b**ch,” as her car spiraled out of control and crashed into a nearby parked vehicle.
The release of this video has undermined the claims made by Trump’s allies over the past two days, which sought to downplay Good’s death and the ensuing protests in a city still reeling from previous tragedies. The global community had previously voiced outrage after the killing of African American man George Floyd by white police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis in 2020.
In a press conference held on Wednesday, JD Vance criticized the media coverage of the incident, repeatedly insisting that Good had aimed her vehicle at the ICE agent in an attempt to run him over. The Vice President asserted, “You have a woman who aimed her car at a law enforcement officer and pressed on the accelerator.”
He continued, “I can acknowledge that her death is a tragedy while also recognizing that it’s a tragedy of her own making and a tragedy fueled by the far left, who have mobilized an extremist faction against our law enforcement officers.” Trump, backing the ICE agent, later remarked, “She behaved horribly, and then she ran him over.”
Good, originally from Colorado Springs, was a celebrated poet. Her first husband, who spoke anonymously to the media, described her as a devoted Christian who had undertaken a youth mission trip to Northern Ireland. Her wife, Rebecca Good, paid an emotional tribute, saying, “She is pure love. She is pure joy. She is pure sunshine.”
While authorities sought to defend the ICE agent involved in the shooting, his own footage contradicted their narrative. Loved ones remembered Good as a compassionate and family-oriented Christian, a stark contrast to the portrayal by many MAGA politicians who have attempted to present themselves as such while trivializing the tragic death of a young mother.
