Asda is preparing to launch around 20 new convenience stores later this year. The initial Asda Express store will debut in Castleford in early October, with additional openings in various locations following shortly after. These stores will offer a selection of up to 3,000 branded and own-label products, including essentials like milk and bread.
The new stores are strategically placed in urban areas, residential neighborhoods, and transport centers. This expansion follows Asda’s acquisition of 469 convenience store and fuel sites from the Co-op and EG Group. Asda’s first Express store was introduced in 2022.
David Lepley, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Asda, expressed excitement about the upcoming Express rollout, emphasizing the company’s commitment to providing value across the UK. He highlighted the rapid growth of Asda’s convenience store network, reaching nearly 500 stores by the end of this year.
Asda recently unveiled plans to revamp 180 in-store cafes as part of a £180 million investment. The enhancements will include digital ordering screens, table ordering service, and traditional manned tills. A revamped menu will feature new offerings such as smashed avocado on toast, katsu chicken curry, salad bowls, wraps, nachos, and loaded fries.
Customers can also look forward to Asda pizzas on the menu, available in full 12″ sizes or individual slices with various toppings. The updated drink selection will include flavored iced coffees and a range of cakes. Popular classics like full English breakfast, fish and chips, lasagne, jacket potatoes, burgers, and chips will continue to be offered.
The cafe refurbishment, managed by Compass Group, is scheduled for completion by the end of October. Asda, with a total of 205 cafes, has confirmed that its Kids Eat for £1 promotion will remain in place.
