Two brothers were involved in a high-speed race that resulted in a teenage girl sustaining critical injuries, a court revealed. Harrison Taylor, 19, and his 21-year-old brother Henry were racing on the Sandbanks peninsula in Poole, Dorset, reaching speeds of 90mph on Boxing Day in 2023. Harrison was driving a Mercedes A200, while his older brother was in a BMW 135i. The court learned that the brothers had received the powerful cars as gifts to cope with their parents’ separation.
During the race, Harrison lost control of the Mercedes on a bend, crashing into a gatepost of a mansion, followed by the BMW colliding with the Mercedes and propelling it into a garden wall. Mia Savage, a passenger in the Mercedes, suffered severe injuries and had to be extricated from the wreck as her mother witnessed the harrowing scene. Mia, who was 17 at the time, sustained life-altering injuries, including a shattered left femur, a fractured neck, multiple broken bones, and severe internal bleeding.
After undergoing extensive surgery and spending time in a coma, Mia faced challenges in her recovery, which also impacted her academic and personal life. The Taylor brothers pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, appearing in court where they received suspended sentences and driving bans. Despite the court’s decision, Mia’s mother expressed disappointment over the outcome, highlighting the lasting impact on her daughter’s life.
The court proceedings revealed that the brothers and their friends had been at a nearby property before deciding to race on the peninsula. The group set off in three vehicles, with Mia joining Harrison’s car moments before the tragic accident occurred. Mia later expressed regret in a victim impact statement, recounting the traumatic experience of the crash and its aftermath.
The judge condemned the brothers’ reckless actions, emphasizing the consequences of their irresponsible behavior. He criticized the decision to gift such powerful cars to young individuals and highlighted the profound impact on Mia’s life due to the incident. Despite the suspended sentences, driving bans, and curfews imposed on the brothers, the judge underscored the gravity of the situation and the need for accountability in such cases.
