“PayPal Launches Debit & Credit Cards with Loyalty Program”

PayPal has announced the launch of its inaugural debit and credit cards, in addition to unveiling a new loyalty program. These cards will be available in both physical and digital formats, enabling customers to utilize their PayPal wallet for in-store purchases for the first time.

The new PayPal debit card will be directly linked to users’ PayPal wallet and one of their bank accounts. In case of insufficient funds in the PayPal wallet, the purchase amount will be deducted from the linked bank account. PayPal has stated that the debit card can be used globally without any transaction fees, while the credit card can be used wherever Mastercard is accepted.

The introduction of these cards coincides with the rollout of PayPal’s new loyalty scheme, allowing customers to earn points on both online and in-store transactions. Customers will earn one point for every £10 spent, and upon reaching 1,000 points, they will receive £10 to spend via their PayPal account. Additionally, shoppers using the PayPal debit card will earn ten points for every £10 spent.

The loyalty program comprises three tiers: Blue, Gold, and Black. Gold and Black tier members will enjoy points valued up to 50% more at checkout, along with exclusive access to VIP experiences and other benefits. The scheme is also compatible with other loyalty programs, enabling customers to accumulate and stack PayPal+ points on top of existing loyalty points, with sign-up for PayPal+ being free.

Diego Scotti, General Manager of PayPal’s Consumer Group, expressed excitement about this new development, emphasizing the enhanced benefits for customers, including the absence of fees, increased rewards through the new debit card, and more opportunities for earning rewards on everyday purchases.

Tamer El-Emary, General Manager of PayPal UK, highlighted the company’s dedication to the UK market and its commitment to providing innovative products that cater to customer needs, with a focus on enhancing the in-store payment experience. PayPal aims to offer a seamless, secure, and rewarding payment experience with the introduction of PayPal+.
