“Eland Cables Boosts Staff Pay Early for Holidays”

One company has chosen to implement an early wage increase for its employees, who appreciate the extra money ahead of the holiday season.

The Real Living Wage is a voluntary payment offered to workers above 18 years old by employers affiliated with the Living Wage Foundation. It is calculated based on the cost of essential items like food, clothing, and household expenses.

The hourly rate will see an 85p raise to £13.45 per hour, a 6.7% increase, and a 95p raise to £14.80 per hour in London, a 6.9% rise, surpassing the legal minimum wage.

This wage increase applies to all employees over 18 working for a Real Living Wage-certified employer, of which there are now more than 16,000.

While companies have until May 2026 to adjust to the new rates, Eland Cables, a provider of electrical cables for major projects, has implemented the increase early, ahead of schedule.

Ben, a 34-year-old father of two from Doncaster, who has been with Eland Cables for several years, is among the many employees benefiting from the advanced wage hike. He expressed appreciation for the move, noting the positive impact on his living expenses and the upcoming holiday season.

Eland Cables’ executive director, JS Pelland, emphasized that the early adoption of the Real Living Wage reflects the company’s commitment to fairness, loyalty, and long-term prosperity.

Pelland highlighted the importance of treating employees well, leading to increased engagement, pride in work, and improved outcomes for all involved.

A significant portion of Eland Cables’ workforce, performing essential tasks such as cable operations and site maintenance, reside locally in Doncaster. The company’s shift towards in-house roles has led to improved staff retention, reduced absenteeism, and increased productivity.
