“Garden Pilates Studio Ruffles Feathers with Fake Profile Controversy”

A health and wellness influencer who divested all her possessions to establish a £30,000 garden Pilates studio has alleged that some locals, who disapprove of the venture, have resorted to creating fake social media profiles to monitor her activities.

Megan Smith inaugurated Luco Wellness in early November, setting up the business in her grandparents’ residence in Kings Lynn, West Norfolk. Having spent three years instructing and honing her skills in Dubai, the 24-year-old entrepreneur decided to take the leap and launch her own studio. To fund the Pilates equipment, she sold her car and other belongings.

Despite gaining popularity in the past two months, certain residents have expressed discontent over the studio’s debut, citing concerns about noise levels and improperly parked vehicles potentially disrupting their daily routines. Operating from 6am to 7pm on weekdays and 9am to 12 noon on weekends, Luco Wellness offers up to seven classes per day and features an on-site café called Luco Nourish, where patrons can indulge in coffee, Acai bowls, and matcha.

The studio is currently awaiting planning permission approval from West Norfolk Council, with a decision expected next week regarding the application seeking a change of use for the building. Despite receiving numerous complaints from dissatisfied locals since the submission in September, Megan defended her decision to open before obtaining official clearance, citing the necessity to start generating income promptly.

In an interview with MailOnline, the influencer emphasized her dedication to the project, stating, “I had put everything into this, months and months of planning, and I thought ‘Why would I let small-minded people stop me from trying to do this?'” She also expressed concerns about individuals creating fake accounts to monitor her on social media platforms.

Addressing criticisms about the studio’s offerings, Megan clarified that Luco Wellness primarily focuses on yoga and Pilates classes, refuting claims of hosting excessive events like hen parties or corporate gatherings. She highlighted the absence of similar wellness facilities in the area, aiming to introduce city-style amenities to the local community.

Several residents have engaged a local planning firm to challenge the application, citing concerns about increased vehicle traffic, public gatherings, and noise disturbances in the neighborhood. One neighbor, residing opposite the studio, raised worries about prolonged operational hours and potential disruptions to the tranquility of the area due to the business activities.

Megan assured that the studio would not play loud music and detailed plans for a controlled entry-exit system on her grandparents’ driveway to manage vehicle movements efficiently. The council is scheduled to make a final decision on the application on January 12. Initial reports from a planning officer suggested that the proposed development aligns with national and local planning policies, emphasizing minimal traffic impact and positive health and social benefits for the community.
