“Brits Embrace Overseas Relocation Trend, Flocking to Canada”

An increasing number of British citizens are choosing to sell their homes and move abroad for a fresh start. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), there has been nearly a 10% rise in Brits relocating overseas since 2023, with 639,000 individuals leaving the country last year.

One such family, Jack Masterson, 36, and his wife Natalie, 35, made the decision to leave their Yorkshire town of Huddersfield and settle in a lively Canadian city. Jack, a videographer, shared that the idea of moving had been lingering in their minds for a while before they took the leap.

Motivated by the Canadian Express Entry visa program, which aims to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in Canada, the Masterson family swiftly made the move in just six months. This visa category, introduced in 2023, caters to various professions, with healthcare workers being the predominant applicants.

Living in North Vancouver, south of Grouse Mountain in British Columbia, the Mastersons found a growing community of Brits seeking a new lifestyle. The area has earned the nickname “British Columbia” due to its high British expat population, often referred to as “limeys.”

Despite the differences in everyday expenses, such as the higher cost of goods in Canada compared to the UK, Jack expressed satisfaction with their decision to relocate. He highlighted the beauty of Vancouver, the welcoming locals, and the endless opportunities for outdoor activities as reasons why the move has been worthwhile.

Simon Hood, an expert in relocation services, emphasized that while affordability concerns exist in Canada, many individuals are drawn to the country for reasons beyond economic factors. The intangible benefits of living in Canada often outweigh the financial aspects for those considering a move.

Overall, the Masterson family’s experience reflects a growing trend among Brits seeking new adventures and opportunities abroad, showcasing the allure of Canada as a destination for those looking for a change in lifestyle.
