Survey Shows UK Skepticism Over Trump’s Re-Election

A recent poll conducted by Deltapoll revealed that a significant portion of the British population is skeptical about the potential impact of Donald Trump’s second term as President of the United States. The survey found that only one in five individuals believe Trump’s re-election would benefit the UK.

While the current Prime Minister has maintained a cordial relationship with President Trump, including exchanging gifts and compliments, a substantial number of respondents expressed a desire for more public criticism towards the US leader. Nearly half of those surveyed indicated a preference for a more critical stance from the Prime Minister towards Trump.

The poll results showed that 43% of respondents anticipate negative consequences for the UK under Trump’s second term, contrasting with the 20% who hold a positive outlook. Additionally, around 27% believe there will be no significant impact. The call for increased criticism of Trump was echoed by 47% of participants, with 15% expressing an opposing view.

The survey data, collected from 1,997 British adults via online interviews, were conducted from December 16th to December 18th, 2025, and have been adjusted to reflect the demographic composition of the British adult population. This sentiment comes amid growing concerns over Trump’s actions, such as his legal threats against the BBC and potential support for far-right candidates in European elections.

During a recent Prime Minister’s Questions session, there were appeals for Keir Starmer to assertively address any attempts by President Trump to interfere with the UK’s democratic processes. In response, Starmer emphasized the importance of a united Europe supporting democratic values and pledged to defend these principles.

Overall, the public sentiment suggests a shifting attitude towards the US-UK relationship under Trump’s leadership, with a notable portion of Brits urging for a more critical stance towards the US President.
