“Spain’s Puy du Fou: Europe’s Top Theme Park for 2025”

A surprise victor has emerged as the Europe’s Leading Theme Park for 2025 at the prestigious World Travel Awards. Situated in the sunny country of Spain, the winning park is a lesser-known gem that typically flies under the radar for British tourists.

Debuting in 2021 in Toledo, Puy du Fou EspaƱa draws inspiration from its French namesake theme park. Located approximately an hour south of Madrid, this historic city, once the capital of Spain, provides an ideal backdrop for an attraction highlighting the nation’s rich past.

Unlike traditional theme parks with rollercoasters and kiddie rides, Puy du Fou EspaƱa offers grand, immersive shows focusing on historical events performed on a grand scale.

During the daytime, visitors can indulge in spectacular shows like “A Pluma y Espada” (With Pen and Sword), a riveting performance centered around a prominent Spanish playwright akin to Shakespeare. Additionally, the Falconry of Kings exhibit, showcasing falconry competitions from bygone eras, along with captivating bird demonstrations, captivate audiences.

Exploring the meticulously crafted villages within the park transports guests back in time. From the medieval atmosphere of La Puebla Real, where artisanal crafts are showcased alongside traditional cuisine, to the 1544 farming village recreation of Villanueva del Corral and the historic-style tavern at El Arrabal, each village offers a unique and immersive experience.

After dark, the awe-inspiring El SueƱo de Toledo (The Dream of Toledo) unfolds, a 70-minute spectacle narrating the history of Spain with a focus on Toledo. Featuring 200 actors, historic sets, fireworks, and special effects, the show promises an unforgettable journey through time.

While visiting Toledo, guests can explore its iconic landmarks, such as the grand Toledo Cathedral (Catedral Primada), a magnificent Gothic structure and one of Spain’s largest cathedrals. The imposing AlcĆ”zar of Toledo, once a fortress defending the city, now houses a military museum.

Noteworthy is the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, a Gothic marvel often lauded as one of Spain’s most beautiful temples. Its intricate stained glass and stonemasonry dating back to the 15th century offer a glimpse into the region’s rich heritage.

Toledo’s historic Casco Historico (old town) boasts a labyrinth of medieval streets lined with independent shops, quaint cafes, and bustling town squares, embodying the city’s historic charm.

Admission prices at Puy du Fou EspaƱa vary, typically starting around €30 (Ā£26) for adult day tickets when booked in advance, with children aged 3-13 starting around €24. On-the-day prices are slightly higher, ranging from €38 to €39.
