Darts player Dom Taylor has publicly apologized for being dishonest about his drug use, also mentioning the tragic loss of his daughter. Taylor, 27, shared a detailed statement on Facebook following his removal from the PDC World Championship.
The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) disclosed that Taylor tested positive on December 14 and was suspended for the rest of the tournament. The Bristol-born player had won his first-round match against Oskar Lukasiak 3-0, earning £25,000, but his prize money was withheld due to the suspension, allowing his second-round opponent, Jonny Clayton, to advance.
In his social media post, Taylor expressed regret for his behavior, revealing a previous failed drug test before the 2025 Ally Pally tournament. He admitted to deceiving himself and others about his drug use.
Taylor mentioned completing the required program following his suspension from a potential two-year ban to three months. He opened up about past traumas, including finding his deceased nan at 12 years old and other distressing events that affected him deeply.
Acknowledging the disappointment he caused to his family, friends, sponsors, and fans, Taylor emphasized his remorse and the impact of his daughter’s passing on his mental health. He admitted to turning to substances to cope and plans to seek help after the holiday season.
Reflecting on missed opportunities for support and the toll of recent events, Taylor expressed his apologies and commitment to getting the necessary assistance. He thanked supporters and vowed to return stronger in the future.
