“Dublin Airport Terminal Evacuated Over Suspicious Luggage”

A security incident at Dublin Airport led to the evacuation of a terminal today in response to a suspicious piece of airline luggage. Authorities confirmed that police quickly arrived at the major airport in Ireland after receiving a report concerning the luggage on a plane bound for JFK Airport in the US, resulting in the closure of Terminal 2. The evacuation was carried out, and traffic in the vicinity was restricted while explosive disposal teams were called to the scene.

Although the situation was contained by law enforcement and Terminal 2 has now reopened, officials cautioned that travel delays may impact passengers throughout the evening, adding to the challenges faced by the aviation industry today.

In a statement, Gardaí indicated that earlier in the day, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, they responded to the report of the concerning luggage at Dublin Airport. As a precautionary measure, Terminal 2 was evacuated, and traffic flow was limited. The Defense Forces’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team was called in for assistance. Following an initial assessment, the luggage was secured and determined safe for relocation to a different area without disrupting airport operations. Normal operations resumed at Dublin Airport thereafter.

“The luggage underwent further examination by the Army EOD team and was declared safe. Our investigations are ongoing,” stated Gardaí.

The incident coincided with disruptions at various European aviation hubs due to a suspected cyberattack on an online check-in and boarding system operated by Collins Aerospace, affecting multiple airlines at different airports globally. Heathrow Airport reported delays for departing passengers due to technical issues with a third-party supplier’s check-in and boarding systems.

Passengers were advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport, with additional staff present to aid in minimizing disruptions. The apology was extended for any inconvenience caused.

In Brussels, one of the heavily impacted airports, flight cancellations reached 14, with departing flights facing delays of up to an hour.
