Canadian swimming sensation Summer McIntosh has set her sights on clinching five individual gold medals at the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics in two years. Her performance at this week’s Pan Pacific swimming championships, held in the same city as the 2028 Games, will provide valuable insight into her current standing.
As she arrived for the competition shortly before turning 20, McIntosh expressed her excitement and determination for the future. Reflecting on her flyover of the Olympic Stadium, she shared her aspirations, stating, “Every day I think about L.A. and I’m so excited for it. So to be in California I think is really special. Even just being in the state that the Olympics will be I think is really important.”
McIntosh, who secured three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, has solidified her status as a swimming superstar. Holding an impressive four long-course world records in various disciplines, including the 200m butterfly and 400m freestyle, she continues to make waves in the swimming world.
Following her exceptional performance at the Canadian trials in Montreal, where she shattered the women’s 200m butterfly world record, McIntosh faced a setback due to illness. However, she has since recovered and is now fully prepared for the Pan Pacific championships.
Competing under the guidance of legendary coach Bob Bowman, McIntosh is set to participate in four events at the Pan Pacs, including the 200m freestyle and individual medley races. With a focus on peaking at this competition, McIntosh remains optimistic about her performance and aims to make a significant impact in the pool.
As McIntosh embarks on this new chapter in her swimming career, she looks forward to showcasing her skills on the international stage and setting the stage for her future endeavors leading up to the Los Angeles Olympics.
