The Met Office has advised residents in 51 regions to ensure they have three crucial items on hand as a wave of snow approaches overnight.
An alert for ice and snow, marked by a yellow warning, is effective from 2am to 3pm on Sunday, encompassing a large portion of Scotland and northern England. Areas at lower elevations might witness snow accumulation of up to 10cm, while locations above 200m could be blanketed by as much as 20cm of snow, leading to drifting snow and extensive icy patches due to strong winds.
The public has been cautioned about potential travel disruptions, vehicles getting stuck, injuries from slips on icy surfaces, and potential power outages affecting mobile phone service. To ensure safety, the Met Office recommends having torches, batteries, and a portable phone charger, in addition to other essential supplies.
