Frankie Dettori Retires on High Note in Brazil

Frankie Dettori has officially ended his illustrious career on a high note in Brazil by clinching victory in the opening leg of the nation’s Triple Crown. Initially planning to retire at Ascot’s Champions Day in October 2023, the renowned jockey had a change of heart and extended his career in the United States.

The 55-year-old announced last November that he would bid farewell to racing at the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar, concluding with a brief tour in South America that culminated at Gavea racecourse in Rio de Janeiro. Dettori triumphed in two races, first atop Speak Alpha and then on Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro, allowing him one final opportunity for his signature flying dismount celebration.

Reflecting on his last race, Dettori expressed his unexpected joy at winning a Group 1 race on his final day, describing it as a brilliant experience. He emotionally conveyed his gratitude for his fulfilling career, stating, “I’ve had a beautiful career, and I’m blessed to walk away unscathed. I’ve accomplished all my goals as a jockey, and while that chapter has closed, I remain committed to the racing world.”

Dettori has embraced a new role as a global ambassador for Amo Racing, led by Kia Joorabchian, following his final British Group 1 victory aboard King Of Steel in the Champion Stakes. In a heartfelt message to his fans on social media, he acknowledged the profound impact of horse racing on his life, expressing gratitude to his family, colleagues, and supporters for their unwavering backing throughout his four-decade-long journey in the sport.

The legendary jockey concluded by thanking his fans for their unwavering support and for enabling him to live out his childhood dream.
