The bereaved parents of a young man who tragically passed away just before the Christmas season shared their profound sorrow following the recovery of his body from the River Avon in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. Luke Haffield, aged 20, lost his life after entering the river, leading to extensive search efforts before his remains were found on December 27. Describing their beloved son as someone who deeply impacted many lives with his kindness, the family expressed their devastation at the unexpected loss.
In an official statement conveyed through the police, the family expressed shock and deep sorrow over the loss of their beloved son and brother in the unfortunate incident. They highlighted Luke’s exceptional character, describing him as a compassionate individual whose absence will be deeply felt by the countless individuals who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family further mentioned Luke’s accomplishments, noting that he was in the second year of his Engineering apprenticeship with Moog and was actively involved in various sports activities such as football, hockey, cricket in his earlier years, and more recently, golf, darts, and padel. They lovingly referred to him as “Lukey” and bid him farewell with heartfelt words, emphasizing that his memory will forever endure.
In a separate statement, Gloucestershire Police extended gratitude to all the emergency services involved in the search and recovery efforts, including Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, the National Police Air Service, Severn Area Rescue Association, and West Mercia Police dog handlers.
