Over a hundred vehicles collided due to heavy snowfall, causing chaos for drivers in the United States. The incident occurred on Monday, January 19 in Michigan, where a blanket of snow led to a massive crash on Interstate 196 just southwest of Grand Rapids.
Michigan State Police closed the highway in response to the pileup, which involved more than 30 trucks. While several injuries were reported, thankfully, there were no fatalities. A driver named Pedro Mata Jr. described the challenging conditions, noting that visibility was extremely poor as snow swirled around the road, leading to the collision.
As the winter storm continues to disrupt the country, weather warnings have been issued across multiple states from northern Minnesota to New York. Forecasters predict subzero temperatures overnight in north-central Florida and southeast Georgia.
In Michigan’s Ottawa County, numerous accidents were reported, with many vehicles sliding off the road. Stranded drivers were assisted by bus services to reach Hudsonville High School for support. The cleanup operation is expected to take several hours, with towing companies working together to clear the aftermath of the crash.
Grand Valley Towing, among other companies, dispatched over a dozen trucks to aid in the cleanup efforts. The manager emphasized the urgency of clearing the vehicles to reopen the road promptly.
